The Australian Corporate Games are the nation’s largest annual multi-sport championship event for businesses and organisations across the nation. Dr Maureen Johnston developed the Corporate Games concept and the first World Corporate Games were held in San Francisco in 1988. The first Australian Corporate Games were held in Sydney in 1993 after Australia acquired the license to hold the national event in 1991.
This year’s 21st annual Australian Corporate Games will be held from November 22-24 in Melbourne. The yearly event attracts over 10,000 participants across a plethora of sports and over 300 participating organisations.
Over three days of competition and a range of venues across the city, the Corporate Games provide workers with the opportunity to actively participate in a sport they love and to represent their company in a multi-sport championship. The Games host 20 different sports for teams and individuals including basketball, badminton, AFL 9’s, cricket 8’s, golf, netball, poker, running, soccer, softball, squash, open water swimming, table tennis, tennis, bowling and volleyball.
Competitors get the chance to show their talent at some of Australia’s best sporting venues including Melbourne Park, the home of the Australian Open, and Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC). Most of the venues are within five minutes of each other allowing participants to support their friends in different sports and experience the fascinating venues within the city of Melbourne.
Companies across the country have taken part and witnessed the sportsmanship and determination that their employees exhibit when representing their organisation. It’s an excellent way for employers to encourage an active lifestyle amongst employees and for people to stay active in sport at any age.
Anyone from large corporations or small businesses are welcome to participate and entrants range from single entries to teams of over 400 people. Families, friends and clients are encouraged to join the team and take part in the amazing team-building event.
Each year the event raises much-needed funds for an Australian charity. This year’s games will be fundraising for the Epilepsy Foundation of Victoria.
Entries for the event close on October 3rd. For more information email [email protected] or call 1300 301 418.
